Irvine
Valley Regeneration Partnership was constituted in June 1999 and its 2020
Vision is dedicated to the regeneration of the Irvine Valley as a whole.
Local elected councillors, community councillors, representatives from
the private sector, voluntary organisations and educational bodies serve
on the Board and over 60 local companies give their support as Partnership
Members. IVRP is classified as a Rural Partnership and receives grant
aid from East Ayrshire Council.
With
a long term aim of regenerating this scenic and historic area, the Partnership
is moving forward through 2002 with a series of environmental improvements
and tourism related projects.
IVRP is also a Partner in Newmilns Townscape Heritage Initiative which
is restoring key buildings in the Conservation Area of Newmilns with a
£5.2m investment from a wide range of funders.
The
2020 Vision aims to diversify the local economy through:
-tourism
of a sort that encourages people into the Valley towns.
-supporting industrial development where there are suitable sites.
-modern/service industries which do not require industrial estate locations.
-supporting existing industries.
-supporting conversion of redundant shops to residential and other use.
-recognising that there may still be surplus buildings and that some carefully
chosen demolitions may be inevitable with plans developed for their sites.
