As well as the many trails through the park, Eglinton's 400 hectares of countryside offer numerous opportunities and facilities for leisure and recreation. Within the Park you can take a quiet walk through the woods, around the loch, stroll along the river bank or spend some time in the gardens. Coarse angling is available at Eglinton Loch and there is a bridle way system for horse riders. Permits are required for both, and can be obtained at the Visitor Centre. Discover the story of Eglinton Estate, site of the famous Eglinton Tournament. The Interpretation Hall houses the Landscape of the Knights' exhibition, which tells the story of Eglinton Estate, once the seat of the Montgomery family and site of the famous 1839 Eglinton Tournament. The ruins of the 1796 castle and the Tournament Bridge that once echoed to the sounds of jousting knights now ring to the sound of families having a great day out. North Ayrshire Ranger Service is based at the Visitor Centre and offers a varied interpretative programme for schools, groups and the general public. ![]() |
